Board Training/Development

The role of the board of directors or board of trustees in a not-for-profit corporation is a critical one.  The board is responsible for ensuring that the organization lives up to the public trust which was given it when it received tax exempt status.  In addition, the board has ultimate responsibility for the life and health of the organization.

NfPVision can provide training and development opportunities tailored to the specific needs of an organization.  They may consist of a single presentation (similar to the training workshop outlined in Workshops) or a longer-term consultation.

Capital Campaigns

When a not-for-profit corporation considers undertaking a capital campaign, it is clear that it has reached a milestone in its existence.  The decision to establish an institutional endowment, build a new facility, or make major upgrades in its programs and services is one which will forever alter the organization.  NfPVision can help assess institutional readiness for a capital campaign, conduct a feasibility study to test the market for it, and assist in devising an implementation process.

Fundraising

Whether for on-going support of operations or seed money for program initiatives, fundraising is a constant fact of life for not-for-profit corporations.  NfPVision can assist an organization in analyzing its fundraising efforts and advise it on the most effective ways to meet its financial needs.

Market Planning

A corollary of strategic planning, market planning helps an organization align its programming with its mission, identify the people who need its services, and find ways to communicate the existence of its programs to those people.

Marketing is far more than sales.  Every point of contact between a n-f-p and the public is a marketing event.  Objections to marketing that often arise in the not-for-profit community stem from a concern that important services not be trivialized as common commodities.  NfPVision’s commitment to mission-centered marketing helps strike a careful balance between the critical principles of the organization and the needs of those who can benefit from its services.

NfPVision specializes in the organizational planning aspects of marketing.  Additionally, it provides training to staff and board members in conducting program analyses (Marketing Mix) and aligning marketing techniques with specific programs (Marketing Campaign).

Search Services

Executive searches represent one of the most significant decision points in the life of a not-for-profit corporation.  NfPVision can provide assistance in any phase of the search process—organizational analysis, position description, candidate solicitation and screening, reference checks, interviews, and contract negotiations.  In general, NfPVision suggests that organizations contract for advice in these areas rather than seek a consultant to fully implement portions of the search process.

Strategic Planning

For many people, planning has an unfortunate connotation of much work, many meetings, with little to show for the effort.  Properly conducted, the planning process can energize an organization; properly implemented, a plan can transform it.  A good plan also helps ensure the most effective utilization of a not-for-profit corporation’s limited financial and human resources.

Board, staff, and volunteers who work with not-for-profit corporations do so primarily out of commitment to the principles upon which the organization was established.  NfPVision ’s commitment to vision-based planning provides its clients confidence that the vital heart of the enterprise will be honored and supported in every phase of the process.

All levels of consulting support for planning are available, from assistance with establishment of the process through preparation of the final plan document.  NfPVision recommends a middle-ground approach to provide the organization with a greater sense of ownership of the final product.

Lay Leadership Training/Development

Religious organizations are particularly dependent upon volunteers for both program and administrative functions.  The process of transforming members to ministers is one which can be fostered intentionally, resulting in much stronger programming and more vigorous member involvement.  NfPVision can provide tools for helping make that transformation easier and more likely to reach a broader segment of members than has been true in the past.

Stewardship Campaigns

With rare exceptions, religious organizations are almost wholly dependent upon individual charitable contributions for the financial resources to carry out their programs.  At the same time, most are highly ambivalent about talking with members about money.  NfPVision can help in this process by training campaign leaders or by providing direct assistance in the campaign itself.
